RAIA Grid targets Indonesia's digital infrastructure needs

Infra Fiber Teknologi (IFT), the digital infrastructure spin-off of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, has launched RAIA Grid, an AI-powered platform designed to support Indonesia's expanding digital infrastructure.

IFT was established after Indosat spun off its fiber business to create an independently governed fiber infrastructure platform with Indonesian investment firm Arsari Group. The company operates more than 86,000 km (53,437 miles) of fiber infrastructure across Indonesia, including backbone, domestic subsea, and access networks. The platform follows an open-access model.

IFT plans to use this existing infrastructure as the foundation for RAIA Grid. The platform will incorporate machine learning, artificial intelligence, and agentic AI into infrastructure planning, deployment, and operations.

According to IFT, these capabilities are intended to support network planning and demand forecasting, optimize fiber routes and investment decisions, automate parts of deployment, and enable predictive maintenance and more autonomous network operations.

RAIA Grid is designed to support 5G, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), and data center-to-data center (DC-to-DC) connectivity. Its open-access model is intended to serve telecommunications companies, data centers, cloud providers, hyperscalers, and enterprises.

The platform is designed to create infrastructure pathways that allow data and digital services to move across Indonesia, connecting data centers, cloud platforms, businesses, and AI infrastructure.

“RAIA Grid is built with a clear strategic ambition: to become the digital superhighway connecting Indonesia’s increasingly complex digital ecosystem, from data center to data center, and ultimately connecting Indonesia to the world,” said Hendri Mulya Syam, president director of RAIA Grid.

“We are creating the infrastructure layer that enables compute, data and intelligence to move seamlessly at scale, turning connectivity into a strategic advantage for Indonesia’s digital future.”

Connection with Indosat's Zankore initiative

Indosat CEO Vikram Sinha said RAIA Grid is connected to the company's Zankore by Indosat data center initiative, which was announced the previous month.

Indosat has partnered with the wider Ooredoo Group, Nokia, and Nvidia on Zankore by Indosat. The initiative aims to deploy up to 1GW of AI data center capacity.

“The opportunity ahead is bigger than connectivity. RAIA Grid is building the highway that connects data centers, cloud platforms, businesses and AI infrastructure, creating the foundation for a full AI stack,” Sinha said.

“By bringing together RAIA Grid, Indosat and Zankore, we are connecting the critical layers needed to make AI more real, scalable, and accessible across Indonesia. This convergence allows us to move beyond connecting infrastructure to connecting intelligence, creating new opportunities for businesses, industries, and people.”

Aryo Djojohadikusumo, deputy CEO and COO of Arsari Group, said the project is intended to support Indonesia's future computing and AI requirements.

“Our ambition is to build the capabilities Indonesia will need for the next era of computing and AI. We are looking beyond connectivity to support high-performance computing today, while laying the foundation for future capabilities, including supercomputer manufacturing in Indonesia. By building these capabilities here, we can strengthen Indonesia’s technological independence and create opportunities to compete on a global stage,” Djojohadikusumo said.
