Empyrion Digital secures financing for 7MW Taipei data center
APAC data center company Empyrion Digital has closed financing with E.Sun Bank for its 7MW data center in Taipei, Taiwan.
The TW1 Taipei Data Center is being built in Neihu. It will provide 4,260 square meters (45,855 square feet) of colocation space across five stories and is scheduled to be ready for service by the fourth quarter of 2027.
TW1 is designed to support artificial intelligence workloads, high-performance computing (HPC), enterprise users, and cloud customers. The facility will include integrated photovoltaic walls to generate solar electricity and reduce energy and water consumption.
Empyrion Digital began construction on the facility in January 2026, after announcing plans for the Taiwan project in November 2024.
Empyrion CEO Teruo Iwamoto said that completing the financing was an important step in the company's expansion in Taiwan. He said the transaction reflected the project's fundamentals, E.Sun Bank's confidence in TW1, and the broader Taiwanese digital infrastructure market. He also credited E.Sun Bank, the company's advisers, and its other partners for supporting the financing process.
E.Sun Bank said it was pleased to support Empyrion Digital's financing for TW1. The bank said that the growth of AI, cloud computing, and digital services was increasing the importance of resilient, high-quality digital infrastructure to Taiwan's digital economy. It also said it expected to develop a long-term partnership with Empyrion Digital as the project progresses.
Empyrion's regional portfolio
Empyrion Digital was established in 2021 as a portfolio company of Singaporean infrastructure investment fund Seraya Partners. Its operational and development portfolio spans six Asian countries.
The company has two operational facilities:
- A 29.4MW data center in Banham, South Korea
- A 7.7MW facility in Dodid, Singapore
Empyrion is also developing several projects across the region, including:
- A 200MW data center campus in Johor, Malaysia, which reached the topping-out stage earlier in 2026
- A 12MW data center in Bangkok, Thailand
- A 25MW facility in Tokyo, Japan
E.Sun Bank and Seraya Partners
E.Sun Bank was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Taipei. The bank was also lead arranger and bookrunner for AirTrunk's US$1.2 billion loan to finance the company's TOK1 East Tokyo hyperscale data center campus. That transaction was the largest data center financing in Japan at the time.
Seraya Partners has $2.7 billion in assets under management across its private equity funds and co-investment vehicles. Its investments focus on digital infrastructure and energy transition.
Neihu District is a technology business area in Taipei and a hub for data centers and technology companies. Taipei is Taiwan's primary digital and data center market, with 17 facilities listed by Data Center Map.
